Learning Log 7

This Romeo and Juliet performance taught me alot of things. Firstly, it taught me that teamwork is very important as this will help us do things better and faster. Communication is also essential and fortunately for my group, we had no problems with that. Also, although not all my group members were able to meet up at one time, we still managed to get our props done.

One day before our performance, we watched 2 Committment perform. I must say it made me more nervous as they were really good! Especially the first group, who did a Bollywood themed play. I thought it was really interesting. The other groups were good too.

On the day of our performance, we were all very nervous. It was kind of nerve-wrecking performing on front of a class and being videoed but I taught my group did great. Especially the Capulet and Tybalt scene, which was performed by Qian Qi and Kareem respectively. I enjoyed watching them as they were really potraying their characters well. As for me, I taught I could have done better. All in all, it was a good experience as it acutally kind of brought us closer as classmates. Our rehearsals were really fun as we were laughing and stuff.

Would I recommend this to my juniors? Yes, definitely. This is a really good experience for them as actors and they will also get to bond with their classmates.

Learning Log 6

This week, I learnt about literary devices. This is not something new to me as I learnt it last year but the literary devices we learn this year are harder. Some of the devices we learnt are gustatory, kinesthetic and oxymoron. I learnt that literary devices enable the reader to better visualise what the writer is saying. For example, an author may repeat a word a few times to stress its importance. This is called repetition.

All in all, I think I'm slowly getting used to the literary devices. Its just a matter of time till we get used to using them in our daily life and that would benefit us greatly as it would be much easier for us to remember the devices for the exams.

Learning Log 5

I learnt how to approach an unseen poem, and how to fully understand by asking ourselves questions to ensure that we really understand it. We should also read it at least twice. The first time we read it, we should read through it without stopping. The second time we read it, we should do so thoroughly and try to understand the words used.

We should also note down what we feel when reading. When answering, we must also be careful and understand what the question is asking by underlining key words from the question. We should not rush through the poem as we might miss some important points that might be the answer to the questions.

I have also learnt the PEEL and IBC technique. I also learnt how to write good essays. We should describe things well, and stress their actions. We should not make it too long, so that it would not be draggy and boring. Also, when quoting, I learnt to use the ABC technique which is Attention, Brief and Context.

Learning Log 4

I have learnt that teamwork is really important as working together with other people may result in a conflict of ideas and this is where teamwork comes in. Some of us have to compromise butDescription: Description: Link in the end, it's all for the best. Also, as my team members and I have different schedules, it was quite a challenge to pick a suitable date to meet up. But we managed in the end

I thought all the performances were really good but there are a few which stood out such as Melvin's group's performance. I though his voice was really witchy and that shows that he was really into the play. Also, I thought Rui Yun and Cindy's use of the make-up was really good. It really made them look like witches.

If my group were to be given another chance, I would definitely be more involved as I wasn't really the most co-operative member. Also, I would practice more with my group and get better costumes and props. I hope to better in the upcoming play

Learning Log 3

During the last lesson, Mrs Woo used her number selector to select the groups for the witches demonstration. I was quite happy with my group as my group members were people I knew I could work with.  I am quite excited as I have never done something like this before - acting as a witch and I am definitely looking forward to practicing with my group.

The lesson on Act 1, Scene 2 was a bit rushed as our class was behind time. I found the lesson interesting as Act 1 Scene 2 was mainly about when Macbeth was at war. I learnt that Macbeth was very brave. I also found that the weapons they used for the war very interesting as it is very different from what we use nowadays. I found that the original text was really hard to read. It is really different from the language we use today.

The group discussion on the comic grid was interesting as I heard other ways of summarising the story into one sentence. This is going to be quite a task for me as I am not the best in drawing but I hope to do my best as this assignment will be counted in our SA1.

Learning Log 2

This week, we had our classmates act as the three witches from Macbeth. I thought Faisha totally rocked as her voice was really witchy. As for me, I need to figure out my witch voice and work on it. I think that it's a little nerve-wrecking when you're actually performing as the whole class is watching you and you're afraid that they might laugh but that was definitely NOT the case for me as I was laughing myself at my group's performance as for some strange reason, I found it absolutely hilarious. I definitely need to work on controlling my laughter. As for the other groups that performed, I thought they still weren't too sure of using their witch voice as they were embarrassed. I can't blame them as I felt the same way too. All in all, I think there's still room for improvement.

I thought the discussion on superstitions was really interesting as I heard of suerstitions I never knew existed such as ' step on a crack, break your mother's back '. There are many superstitions from different cultures and I'm really interested in them. When I got home that day, I googled some superstitions and found many new ones.

Today, a few of my classmates presented some of their superstitions and I learnt of many new superstitions. Not many people believe in superstitions but I do. I find them very interesting, especially when they're related to ghosts.

Learning Log 1

I have learnt that a Cinquain Poem is a short, five-lined poem. The first line states the title. The second line describes the title in two words. The third line states the actions of the title. The fourth line states your feelings for the title and the fifth line concludes the whole poem.

I thought the lesson was fun as we did group work. This gave us an opportunity to interact with one another and get to know our classmates better. We all had really different ideas so it was interesting listening to all of them.

I think having games will make our lessons more fun but without them is also fine. Since we're learning a new topic this year, it makes us all very interested.
